A production by the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Muziektheater Transparant in co-production with HERMESensemble and Needcompany. In collaboration with De Singel Antwerpen, Concertgebouw Brugge, and with the support of the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government.
Let’s talk. About death. Not about saying goodbye. But about that moment when you are face to face. The moment when you must exchange the life you cling to for something else. Without knowing exactly what that 'something else' is. But knowing that it is inevitable. Incredible. Incredibly immense.
Between Two Lights aims to make death tangible. Not with frightening visions, but in a ritual that offers comfort and where we cautiously expose ourselves to the thought of death. In this way, we feel closer to those who have passed away and come closer to reconciling with our own mortality.
With the musical-theatrical Between Two Lights, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Muziektheater Transparant present a world premiere by one of the most significant Chinese composers of the moment, Huang Ruo. His work builds on a new musical style that bridges the musical worlds of the West and Asia.
On 22 May, Joep Stapel will give an introduction in Muziekgebouw Amsterdam.
