Our most beloved Easter tradition: the performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion – a moving masterpiece about suffering, betrayal and sacrifice.
The story that moves and transports us time and time again: the St. Matthew Passion. Follow the last days of Jesus Christ, join him in the betrayal, in the suffering, in the forgiveness, in the redemption. The St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach is a moving tribute that the Residentie Orchestra performs every year in the week before Easter: one of the longest and most complex compositions by this composer, full of symbolism and musical ecstasy.
Fourteen Stations of the Cross, twelve apostles, seven days of creation, four evangelists and the holy unity of three. The story of the last days of the Son of God has deeper layers of interpretation and continuous wonder. Bach wrote music with a great arc of tension in which choir and orchestra work together, complement each other or challenge each other. Peter Dijkstra leads an unmissable combination with a cast of star soloists, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the boys' voices of the Hague Sailors' Choir.
